In Turkey, a man knocked down a wall of his home only to discover an 18-story underground city.
A Subterranean City
The massive city is 18 stories making it the most in-depth underground city found to date. It was most likely used as a giant bunker to protect its citizens from either war or natural disasters.
Stairs were created to go different levels. The tunnel’s ceilings were high enough to walk upright.
Just An Ordinary City, Fully Underground
The city had everything a person would need:
- Individual dwellings
- Communal rooms
- Livestock rooms
- School with a study room
- Escape routes
Why Would An Underground City Be Built?
It’s believed that this underground abode were either to be used as massive bunkers to protect people against war or natural disasters. This is just one of dozens of underground cities that were carved from rock thousands of years ago.
