Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Is Ready To Expand

Fort Lauderdale is ready to undergo a $2.3 billion expansion at their Fort Lauderdale International Airport that will provide more space for passengers as well as large jets. Will still be known for its affordable flights and convenient location.

Airport officials plan to have this entire project completed by September 18, 2014 and are confident this will draw in more travelers as well as reduce delays. One of the projects already in construction is the new 8,000 Ft South Runway costing a total $791 million dollars. This will be an elevated concrete of sloping ribbon that parallels Griffin Road. The airport, which is run by Broward County, will also be renovating and modernizing 3 terminals that will be a project running until the year 2017. All of these improvements will increase the number of airport gates from 58 to 66. Another element of this expansion that will make travel easier is the security checkpoints. Terminals 3 & 4 will be for “in-line baggage and the monitoring along beltways will be don’t along terminals 1 & 2 producing less traffic. This project will cost about $100 million dollars. Fort Lauderdale Airport is known for being that airport you want to go to instead of dealing with the higher rates and traffic in the Miami International Airport. Fort Lauderdale is continuing to grow and expand so vacationers can turn into long term home residents.
